There are many reasons to use Chromadek Sheeting instead of Galvanised or Aluminum Sheeting. After my conversation with a 65-year-old sign-maker who works with these materials on a daily basis my point of view has changed. He highlighted a handful of practical yet great reasons to jump on the Chromadek bandwagon.
High on the priority list is cost-saving, Chromadek steel sheeting is a more affordable alternative without compromising on quality.
Of course, the ultimate material to use for outdoor signage would be Aluminum sheeting as it is the most durable. However, it is 50% more expensive than Chromadek sheeting and being a precious metal; it is high on the hit list of items being stolen and sold to make a quick buck.
Chromadek is known for its durability, due to the treatment process, it undergoes it slows down the rusting process immensely. Also, when cutting with a guillotine the edges seal themselves preventing these edges from rusting, which is not the case with Galvanised sheeting.
With steel, sheeting weight is often a determining factor, and Chromadek Sheeting is 15% lighter than Galvanised Sheeting.
As Chromadek is durable, light sheet metal, you would also be able to use it for industrial signage. Usually, one would use the 1mm sheeting for road signs, and 1.5/1.8mm sheeting for larger signs, for example, a factory name sign. In this case, you would cut the Chromadek sheeting into segments and rivet these sections together.
These areas then act as reinforcement and stabilizers to make the sign more wind resistant. You would then mount the complete sign on a galvanized steel frame.
Based on these practical reasons Chromadek appears to be the go-to material for signage that is exposed to the elements as it is solid yet light and durable.
